Single Heritage Room in Mystical Mansion with Kund

Located in the erstwhile seaport of Calicut—Kozhikode—this heritage mansion comes with history that spans more than a century-and-a-half and an aura that is timeless. Tucked away under the richness of tropical shrubbery, this palatial house stands before a well-landscaped lawn, a cosy sitting space of wooden chairs and a table, and a breath-taking view of the greenery. A day well-spent on the lawns could involve a relaxing morning yoga session, an enjoyable afternoon picnic with warm company of your own self, and an evening of steaming chai cuppas and sumptuous samosas. Cocooned in a lush cove, an ancient ‘kund’—a stepped outdoor tank—sits enclosed in rock-lined walls and creates an aura paradise with its ethereal quartz-tinted water. Soak in its cool embrace and feel like a ‘Chera’ royal as you abandon your worries. Featuring cosy and minimalistic interiors, this suite is well-furnished with cottage-style single bed that as well-defined carvings on its headboard, an old-fashioned wall mirror, and a roomy standalone wardrobe. With walls adorned in embossed paintings of fiery ‘kathakali’ dancers and its expanse decked with wicker furniture and old-fashioned reclining chairs, the main hall completes the vision of a stately Kerala stay. Dig your toes in the dewy morning grass or sprawl under the wispy blue sky on the shores of a lily-pad pool, there’s much to keep you well-occupied for a relaxing solo sojourn.

The house was built according to Vasthu principles in traditional padinijitta (west-facing) style, as was prevalent then. On the south-west side was the family temple with Durga as the presiding deity, and a large traditional pond on the north-west side with perennial water supply, was used for swimming and bathing. The house had a main block, southern wing (thekkini) and northern wing (vadakkini) and there was a central courtyard separating the two wings and the main block.

Guest Brief

Cusine Pure vegetarian, wholesome food and prepared in tune with Ayurveda philosophy. The food is mildly spiced with less oil and is served fresh for each meal. Meat, fish, eggs, alcohol etc are not served. Ayurveda guests may have certain food restrictions as decided by the Ayurveda doctor.
