With its history spanning more than a hundred years in the pages of yore, this Imperial-era heritage palace stands formidably in the a sprawling estate which was first remodelled in 1938 by Rana of Jubbal in to this exquisite antediluvian home, and later in 1977 by his grandson in to a heritage property. Cloaked in vine tendrils which inch up just about half of its height, it gives way to a quaint grey-beige façade and a chestnut-maroon cupola, at the end rising to a towering spire in alabaster. A sweeping well-tendered lawn with an ornamental sculpture fountain, in the centre, yields into quaint French windows and a luscious backdrop of deodars, which completes this stately setting. For the nature lover this is a haven of delight. From the moment one walks into the walls of this splendid palace with its walls elegantly swathed in ivy, the sprawling lawns dotted with deodars fading into the twilight; history and hospitality beckon the eager traveller.
Infused with classical charm, the foyer is decked in antique elements such as a grandfather clock, an engraved brass-top table, and an oriental-style runner rug spanning the length of it. Monochrome portraits of the erstwhile inhabitants of this palace add an enigmatic nostalgic charm to the room. A grand foyer staircase leads up to the room which is lavishly decked out in an antique oval-mirror dresser, a study desk, low-backed chairs with a claw-foot coffee table, and a simple solid-wood double bed in the centre. Coordinated furnishings in floral patterns such as a carpet and window drapes compose the quaint décor of the room. The bathroom is attached and equipped with lavish facilities like a compact bathtub perfect for a long bubble bath. A timeless vacation is incomplete without an evening in the classic fine-dining restaurant called ‘The Hollywood Bar 1930s’ which boasts a gallery of collectible portraits signed by film stars such as Clark Gable and Katherine Hepburn.
