In the bustling commercial and industrial city of Bhavnagar, our place comes as a pleasant juxtaposition with its acres of lush green lawns and beautific foliage. The imposing khakhi stoned structure was designed in the year AD 1859 by a the German architect Mr Simms. This glorious relic of the opulent times of Maharajas and Maharanis was home to the Gohil clan. When India became independent in 1947, Maharaja Krishna Kumar Singhji became the first Indian ruler to hand over his kingdom and join sovereign India. In the year..... the palace was coverted into a heritage property,in order to maintain and also share a historic monument. Verdant, calm and serene, this place welcomes the weary traveller to an ideal getaway. An intricately carved antique wooden arch opens into a richly furnished lounge, portraits of illustrious rulers and their queens gracing the walls. Further, one walks into a traditional Indian courtyard where a fountain carved out of stone and brass gently cascades into a pond strewn with rose petals. Gossamer thin curtains blow in the wind to hold out the harsh rays of the sun to protect the courtyard walls that are home to an exquisite collection of bird paintings by the famous Gujarati artist Soma Lal Shah. The dining room comes ablaze with sparkling Czeckoslovakian chandeliors, throwing light upon the ornate Burma teak banquet tables and chairs. A choice of Indian, continental, Chinese and Kathiawadi cuisine is offered to the discerning palette.
We offers rooms, all redolent with an old world charm, decorated in calm and soothing tones. The ornate, carved four poster beds and antique writing tables and plush sofas are those that the royal family used when the palace was a home . Art connoisseurs can appreciate the paintings collected from all over the world and portraits commissioned to both local and internationally acclaimed artists.
